Salvation Army worker gets arm caught in conveyor belt
A worker at a Pasadena Salvation Army facility suffered major injuries to his arm Wednesday after getting the limb caught in a conveyor belt.
The workplace mishap was reported about 11:45 a.m. at the Salvation Army, 35 Waverly Drive.
Eleven firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene within about three minutes and set to work with specialized equipment to free the worker’s arm. It took at least a half an hour dismantle the machine.
Rescuers rendered medical care and provided the man pain medication as they worked. He was described as being in his 30s.
The victim suffered major trauma to his arm and was taken to an area hospital.
It was not clear if the arm would need to be amputated.
The conveyor belt the man became caught in is used to sort donated clothing in a Salvation Army warehouse.
Representatives of the facility could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
It was not immediately clear how the accident occurred.
The California Department of Industrial Relations Division of Occupational Safety and Health will conduct an investigation.

Edison worker dies in Industrial accident
On Thursday, April 25, 2013, about 7:45 AM, officers from the Menifee Police Department responded to the area of Murrieta Rd., north of Park City Ave, in the city of Menifee. Cal Fire and AMR personnel arrived within minutes and were unable to resuscitate the victim. As a result, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
CAL OSHA and Southern California Edison are investigating the incident. A section of Murrieta Rd from Ridgemoor Ave. to Park City Ave. was closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Early in this investigation it was determined this incident was not related to a massive power outage that occurred in the city of Menifee on the prior day. Coca Cola Bottling Plant Fatal Accident
A 58-year-old Mission Viejo man was killed Friday at a Coca-Cola water bottling plant in Anaheim, the victim of an apparent industrial accident, according to the coroner’s office.
Alberto Gonzalez died Friday after the accident at the plant on 2121 E. Winston Road in southwest Anaheim, according to the coroner’s office. Fire department personnel responded to the plant around 1:30 p.m. and pronounced Gonzalez soon after they arrived, according to police Sgt. Bob Dunn.
“The initial investigation revealed the victim, an employee of Coca Cola, was attempting to make repairs or adjustments to a machine used to load cases of beverages onto pallets,” Dunn said. “While the victim was inside the machine, it activated, and fatally injured the victim.”
An autopsy is scheduled for early next week. The Anaheim Police Department is investigating.

Man Dies After Getting Trapped In Doors Of Gravel Truck
A man died from injuries sustained when he was trapped by the remote doors of a gravel truck Monday, authorities reported.
Vigen Boodaghian, 58, was extricated from the doors by a man who was working with a similar vehicle near the railroad tracks between Magnolia and Burbank boulevards, Burbank police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.
Burbank Fire and Police personnel responded at approximately 9:50 a.m. and Boodaghian was pronounced dead at the scene, Ryburn said.
An investigation was being conducted into the man’s death. No further details were available.
