A 46-year-old woman was critically injured Friday evening when she was struck by a vehicle in Pacific Beach, police said.

The woman was getting out of a car that had stopped on westbound Loring Street at Cass Street about 5:10 p.m., said San Diego police Officer David Stafford. A 45-year-old man driving a Jeep with a trailer also was heading west on Loring. He drove around the car and the Jeep struck the woman as she crossed Loring.

The woman was pinned under the trailer. She suffered head injuries and was taken to a hospital, where she was in critical condition, Stafford said.

Based on the limited information released by news sources it is unclear exactly what happened. The police did say alcohol was not a factor in the accident. The accident remains under investigation.
