Physician’s Assistant Charged With Child Molestation

FBI agents arrested a San Diego man accused of taking pictures and video with young naked girls.
He worked as a physician’s assistant at the Naval Medical Center in Balboa Park
“It’s tragic, repulsive, and I think would make most people sick to their stomach,” FBI Spokesperson April Langwell said.
Federal agents say 38-year-old Brandon Schroth is seen in digital files touching minors.
“They’re staged on a mattress in a bed. There were video depictions of him in a bathtub naked with two pre-pubescent girls,” Langwell said. “Very young 8 to 9 year-old girls. There is no doubt they are engaging in child pornography.”
Schroth worked as a physician’s assistant at the Naval Medical Center in Balboa Park.
Rica Kennedy lived next door to Schroth for a year and a half, until he moved out of the Mission Valley apartment last month.
“I was shocked because he’s in the military and I think he works at the hospital. I hope he’s not…I’m just shocked,” Kennedy said. “That’s scary. Especially here at this complex, there are a lot of kids here.”
Schroth is being charged with two counts of child sex exploitation. His detention hearing is set for March 8.
Leading Sexual Abuse Lawyer Seeking Justice For Victims Of Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse perpetrated by an authority figure is an appalling reality for far too many children and adolescents in California and across the country. Priests, physicians, ministers, church officials and workers, coaches, teachers, day care workers, park rangers, and other trusted adults who sexually molest children ruin lives and cause irreparable psychological damage.
The individual pedophile can be tried as a criminal, but can rarely be held financially accountable. His or her sponsoring or employing organization—the church, diocese, school, school district, or other public or corporate entity—may be liable for its failure to adequately supervise and screen the perpetrator.
The laws regarding sexual abuse cases are complex and include many facets of the law. It is vital to surviving family members to seek the advice of an experienced sexual abuse lawyer such as Gary A Kessler at the Law Offices of Gary A Kessler to protect your rights and those of your loved ones.

Cruise line: Crippled ship to reach land Thursday

NAIROBI, Kenya – Helicopters ferried food, phones and flashlights Tuesday to more than 1,000 passengers and crew stuck aboard the disabled Costa Allegra cruise ship that was being towed to the Seychelles Islands through waters prowled by pirates.
Those aboard the Costa Allegra, a sister ship of the cruise liner that capsized off Italy last month, faced more stifling days and nights before the vessel docks in the tropical paradise.
The stricken liner was expected to reach the main Seychelles island of Mahe on Thursday, the Italian cruise operator said.
“The speed of the ship, despite the hot and humid climate, creates a slight breeze that helps make the situation more comfortable,” a company statement said.
It said fresh bread would be brought in Wednesday since cooking was impossible, but added there was “no lack of food and other comfort items.”
Fire erupted Monday in the ship’s generator room, knocking out power to its engines, lights and air conditioning. The blaze came just six weeks after the Costa Concordia hit a reef and capsized off Italy, killing 32 people. Both ships are operated by Costa Crociere SpA, which is owned by Florida-based Carnival Corp.
Cruise officials initially said the stranded travelers would be taken by Wednesday to Desroches, a small, exclusive coral-lined island in the Seychelles. But they changed the destination to the larger island of Mahe, citing safety and logistical reasons.
Two tug boats joined a French fishing vessel to tow the Costa Allegra, which was being escorted by the Seychelles coast guard ship Andromache and an air force plane. The liner was carrying 413 crew members and 636 passengers, including 212 Italians, 31 Britons and eight Americans.
Four passengers were children ages 3 or younger.
No one was injured in Monday’s fire, but the blaze set the cruise liner adrift at sea in a region where Somali pirates prey on ships.
Company officials rushed to play down concerns.
The Costa Allegra is “being pushed by the current. It is stable and upright,” Giorgio Moretti, the director of nautical operations for Costa Crociere SpA, told reporters in a conference call late Monday from company headquarters in Genoa, Italy.
“It’s a big ship and to tow it, to move it across the waters, is a heavy task,” said Seychelles presidential spokeswoman Srdjana Janosevic. She said that all was calm on board the vessel and no one was hurt.
Italian Coast Guard Officials said emergency generators were keeping the ship’s control room illuminated and communications equipment, such as radios, running. The fire disabled its non-emergency phones, so telephones were among the supplies brought in by helicopter Tuesday.
The Allegra, whose Italian name means “merry,” or “happy,” had left northern Madagascar, off Africa’s southeast coast, on Saturday and was cruising toward Port Victoria when the fire erupted. Costa said the Allegra had been due in Port Victoria on Tuesday.
The region where the cruise ship was adrift off the coast of Tanzania has seen a rash of attacks by Somali pirates. In 2009, an Italian cruise ship with 1,500 people aboard fended off a pirate attack in the Indian Ocean far off the coast of Somalia.
Moretti said an armed nine-member Italian military team on anti-pirate duty was aboard the Allegra, but he insisted the maritime region where the ship was “isn’t a high risk area for pirates.”
“If pirates attack, the armed guards on board will respond. But as far as I am aware, no pirates have been sighted in the area,” Janosevic said.
Moretti said 15 Costa engineers, technicians and other officials were flying to Mahe in hope of reaching the Allegra by air to repair its generators.
Admiralty Maritime Law
Although admiralty law covers ship accidents, it does not subsume other laws.
There are usually many other local, federal state and international laws relating specifically to injuries at sea from negligence.
Most sea vessels are actually registered in foreign countries. Many of these vessels unfurl foreign flags. This means the country the ship is registered
in may have laws covering the vessel as well. Many of these laws might be better for the injured passenger than U.S. laws. This is why you need an
experienced cruise ship accident attorney. As an example, a ship that has its port of departure in Los Angeles, California may be covered under the laws
of the state of California, and the laws of the United States. It may also be covered under the laws of the country of the foreign flag the ship flys, as well as international treaties between the U.S. and the other. The Law Offices of Gary A. Kessler have the knowledge to litigate claims from foreign ports of call, and domestic ports of call.

Woman killed in Camarillo crash identified
The woman killed in a Camarillo traffic collision Monday night was a 69-year-old Fillmore resident who recently moved to Ventura County from North Carolina, authorities said today.
Antje Curphey was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near the intersection of Carmen Drive and Las Posas Road, said Chief Deputy Ventura County Medical Examiner James Baroni.
Curphey was riding in a car driven by her daughter about 6:35 p.m. when the crash occurred.
Richena Curphey, 31, of Fillmore was making a left turn from westbound Las Posas onto Carmen Drive when her car was hit by a pickup truck driven by Christy Dungey, 51, of Ventura, authorities said. The truck struck the car on the passenger side where Antje Curphey was sitting.
The pickup came to rest on its roof along the sidewalk after the crash, which left the roadway littered with debris. The intersection was partly closed after the collision.
Dungey and Richena Curphey were taken to the hospital for treatment. Both were alert and conscious at the scene, and their injuries did not appear life-threatening, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Renee Ferguson.
It appeared that everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt, Ferguson said.
Near a residential area and a business park, the intersection where the crash occurred is controlled by traffic lights.
Antje Curphey had just moved from North Carolina to Fillmore a few weeks ago, Baroni said.
Cause of the Camarillo crash
The official cause of the fatal accident has not been determined. Camarillo Police will rely heavily on traffic cameras to determine the crash’s cause. The cause of the crash remained unclear as the investigation continued today.\

Miramonte coach arrested on suspicion of sex with student
A migrant community specialist and coach for Miramonte High School was arrested Friday on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, police said.
Bakersfield police reported the investigation into Saul Noe Lopez, 31, began when a local merchant reported that a school employee operating a Kern High School District van had purchased condoms at his store.
Kern High School District police identified Lopez as the man who bought the condoms, Bakersfield police reported. A 16-year-old student was identified as the alleged victim.
The investigation was then handed over to Bakersfield police because of the nature of the alleged crime.
Bakersfield police determined Lopez had transported the student from the campus to his home, where a sex act took place, according to police.
Lopez was booked into the downtown jail Friday evening.
No other students have been identified as victims, police said.
KHSD spokesman John Teves said Lopez, who had worked at Miramonte since the school’s opening in 2008, resigned Friday. Lopez was coach of the girls’ varsity soccer team.
As a migrant community specialist, Lopez worked as a liaison between the school and local migrant families, Teves said. It is not a credentialed position.

Crash kills passenger, hospitalizes both drivers
A two-car collision Sunday in Victorville killed a 33-year-old passenger from Hesperia and sent both drivers to the hospital by medical helicopter, say San Bernardino County coroner’s officials.
Randall Warren Esford died at the scene of the 2:38 a.m. wreck Sunday at Palmdale and Amethyst Roads, about two miles west of Interstate 15.
Esford was ejected from a two-door Honda, coroner’s investigators said in a written statement.
Cause of the San Bernardino County Crash
As a passenger, the deceased likely could have done nothing to prevent this fatal collision that ultimately took his life. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department will surely look at the speed of the vehicle, witness reports, and other factors to determine what occurred and who was responsible. Collisions such as this one can have countless causes, including unsafe passing maneuvers, swerving to avoid an object in the road, falling asleep at the wheel, driving under the influence, or driver distraction. Sheriff’s officials have released no information about the circumstances of the crash.

Three Hemet West Valley High School students who were walking away from school Monday afternoon were hit by a car and taken by ambulances to area hospitals.
All three students — two females and a male — were minors. Investigators said they got up after the impact and were able to take several steps before getting woozy and requiring medical assistance.
The females were taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley and the male was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Hemet. Their conditions were not known.
Principal Alex Ballard said the male student was a freshman and the females were a freshman and a sophomore. Their names were not released.
The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. as the students were walking on Mustang Way at Morgan Hill Road, near the easternmost exit of the parking lot, about 100 yards from Sanderson Avenue.
Shortly after the impact, a silver Dodge Charger was stopped in front of the parking lot exit, facing east. It had a dent in its left front fender and part of its windshield was caved in.
As a light rain fell on the scene, a number of students and emergency workers held a tarp over the injured before they were loaded into ambulances.
The occupants of the Charger declined to comment at the scene.
